From the far depths of the subconscious, firm but gentle, the voice of the synthetic reaches our collective ear. Algorithmic sounds of various colours, rhythmically engrained in an open soundscape, washed clean by the rigour of the electronic, nevertheless not apathetically stuffed into a corset, warm bass floats through a mild spring day, through cascades of bells and ice. In these cadences, the new album “Banarchy” by Joney abducts the well-disposed listener. A romantic, moonlit night on the beach, surrounded by a sea of neon lights. An electronic factory, working day and night, or is it just a hologram? A waterfall from colours, exotic animals in the middle, or are they robots? This is the duality of the waking dream: Although they are clearly visible in-front of your mind’s eye, the books are encrypted, the letters change with the rhythm of the percussion. The listener is virtually overwhelmed from this picture made of electricity.
The contrast between the briskness and bleakness of a landscape versus interpersonal warmth and carnal desire is found throughout the whole album. At times, you feel reminded of the love act of alien or metal friends, whose smacking suction creates an intoxicating pulse. Now and then you can hear the the calls of athletic men, then again, bubbling springs burst fountain-like into the frosty landscape, throwing icy drums into the air. This utopia will not free you, even though the title might suggest an escape. The harmonies of the composition show indifference to all things humane. Humankind stays alienated from their work and reproduction; the social order is perpetuated and the pursuit of change is manifested in seven tracks.
